Bible Arithmetic

We should desire to rest beneath the Bible; let it shape our beliefs, our lifestyle, and our identity. But the problem with humans is that we rarely do what’s best for us. We’re prideful, thoughtless, and disobedient. As a result most of us end up standing on top of our Bibles; we shape it by our beliefs, our lifestyle, our identity. How do we do it? Bible arithmetic.

Bible arithmetic is when we add anything to, subtract anything from, divide anything out, or multiply anything within the bible. When we do Bible arithmetic we make God’s word impotent. It loses it’s power to convict us of sin, teach us righteousness, and point us to the cross.  We, in turn, lose the joy that comes with walking within God’s will; we lose our spiritual freedom and enslave oursleves to our own inhibitions.

So, check in over the next week as I look at what happens when we add, subtract, divide and multiply our Bibles.
